Criminal record checks.

Certain work positions will require an individual to undertake a criminal record check. The new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS - formerly CRB) produce two levels of background check; a standard disclosure and an enhanced disclosure.

A standard check will provide information regarding all convictions (including spent convictions). In addition all cautions warnings and reprimands.

An enhanced check provides all the above, in addition to any information help on local police records as well as the Police National Computer. Where those records contain information that may be relevant to the position applied for, the Chief Officer of the relevant force may release additional information for inclusion on the disclosure certificate. This level of check is necessary when somebody will be working with children or vulnerable adults.
